This is so weird to me. I just finished the install for SMF and Sphinx at http://dealerism.com/forum/ and I get a page that simply says "I don't think so, Tim". Has anyone seen this or is this some kind of inside joke I am just learning to get? Shocked

Okay, I think I missed one step. The part about setting permissions.  If in fact this is the problem I need to know what to do to fix this.

I think the directions need to be revised and written with the "least common denominator" in mind. That would be me Grin

Also, I think I was told that there would be specific directions to help me integrate my wordpress site, and I saw none. Please forgive my ignorance. I am in a bit of a rush.

I really wouldn't recommend trying to implement all of this on a live site, right from the get-go, especially in a rush!  You need to test the upgrade on a development site (preferably a copy of your real site) so you can determine any challenges and solutions you might encounter.

Ordinarily, you shouldn't have to monkey with permissions, but your error sure looks like that could be an issue.  Did you have SMF running properly before starting the Sphinx install?  What was the last step you did before encountering the error?

I'm afraid I can't provide any enlightenment regarding WordPress, but if you're using Luke's Sphinx 1.1 compatible WordPress bridge, it shouldn't be a problem once you've got the SMF/Sphinx stuff working correctly.

Inside the Readme_install.txt file I was at:

NOTE: If you do not see the "proceed" link, you have either missed a step,

or are NOT running SMF 1.1.2! Double check every step carefully.

- Once the package completes, click the "Home" link in your Main SMF Menu.

DO NOT click any other link!  Clicking this link will cause the page to reload

which will automatically start the install script for the next steps.

- If the install script did NOT start, manually browse to the DSP_install.php

and then finished everything after that. However, after I went back over eveything I found the part about the permissions, which made me ask about that. The txt file mentions it but the install script never did.

REALLY all I wanted, was to use Wordpress and SMF and then needed to use the Wordpress user ID's and Passwords for the SMF Forum, when I was told it would be best to install Sphinx as well.

If I can just get that part done I can get on with other things that are pressing. I don'y need an extra project (I am a rookie) right now.

Any ideas?

However I have liked what I have seen in this site myself. It feels clean and simple. I wished I could get mine like that, but it is cost prohibitive.

Did you change any permissions at any point?

Did you reach the Sphinx installation point where it requires that you rename the theme folders? (Did you rename them correctly?)

I chmod the /modules/ModuleCaptcha/cache to 777 and I changed default theme to SMF_default and Sphinx to default.

After I chmod the cache file, it stated to skip to the "Completion" section.

Hmm, I don't think I have yet to come across an issue where someone really did have to browse to the Home page URL manually after installing the Sphinx package from the package manager.
However, based on what you have said it still appears that the package installed correctly or you'd be getting other errors if you followed all the other steps of the installation from the readme file.

On the other hand.... now that you ran the install script again, you have duplicated all kinds of things in your database.  Did you make sure you followed the step that said to create a backup of your database and files?  At this point the best solution would be to restore things and start over.
Well, that's if you were running SMF before.  If this was a brand new install starting with SMF and then Sphinx, wipe it out and start over.
Either way, starting the installation over is going to be easier than trying to eliminate the duplicates in the database and maybe you'll figure out what went wrong the first time.

If you don't figure it out and still have problems, please feel free to post back here with the results and error messages if there are any.
