The system tells me I'm not allowed to send personal messages...is this disabled, or is there a minimum number of posts type setting at work here?

It's probably a minimum post amount.  SMF 1.1 has that feature to prevent spammers, god I love 1.1 lol.

Yeah, I've liked what I've seen when poking around my SMF 1.1.2 installations.  It's not that hard to restrict posts by minimum post count in 1.0.10 either, but a simple setting is just that much cleaner.

Everything is simpler in 1.1, it's so much more intuitive, I love it.  I just wish I could reply to these messages I got, it's so frustrating lol.  I wonder what the requirement is set to.

It is a simple post count. Unfortunately the damn spammers have ruined it for everyone else. It isn't too terribly high, and I'm sure you'll be up there soon. Wink

Arg I can't edit my post either!

I'm not trying to spam, for real, I was gonna add a little bit to the bottom of my post.  I was gonna say doesn't a minimum post count for pm's make even more spam for the forums?

Not really. But who knows. Most won't bother, and the captcha in the registration helps a bit too.

I've found that between the captcha and setting the post count to 5 before enabling IMs, I haven't had any spam issues in months.
